Supporting Our Local Heroes: EV Safety Training at Sycamore Bodyshop

We recently had the pleasure of welcoming the Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade to Sycamore Bodyshop for a hands-on training session focused on electric vehicles (EVs).

As EV technology continues to evolve, it’s increasingly important that first responders are equipped with the knowledge and confidence to handle these vehicles safely in emergency situations. With this in mind, our expert team delivered an engaging and practical “show and tell” session.

Our Bodyshop VWG High Voltage Technician, Neil, was joined by Adam, a BMW Group High Voltage Expert from our Service Department. Together, they guided attendees through the fundamentals of EV construction, helping them understand how these vehicles differ from traditional petrol and diesel models. The session also covered how to identify key high-voltage components, what to be aware of at the scene of an accident, and—most importantly—how to safely manage and isolate EVs in emergency scenarios.

This training session provided a valuable opportunity to share specialist knowledge while supporting our local emergency services. By working together, we can help ensure that first responders are well-prepared to deal with the unique challenges presented by electric vehicles.
